The Horticultural Society aims to provide a forum for gardeners of all kinds and abilities and with a wide range of interest. We welcome new, experienced, expert and armchair gardeners. We are a very friendly group with some 50 members.
Meetings are held on the second Mondayof the month (except January and August) at the Memorial Centre. We normally have a guest speaker whose talk is followed by a ‘question and answer’ session. A short break with free coffee and biscuits gives time to meet other gardeners living in the area and an opportunity to participate in our ‘bring and buy’ plant stall and our monthly raffle.
Our Annual Show takes place in July and there is always keen competition for the many cups and medals which are presented at our Annual General Meeting in November.
During the spring and early summer, a number of members open their gardens to other members and their friends. The proceeds of the small donations collected on these occasions go to ‘Perennial’, which is the Royal Gardeners Benevolent Society for retired gardeners.
We meet 7pm for a 7.15pm start in the Youth Centre at the Memorial Centre
