BRIDGE: PRE-EMPTS – THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY - 1 AUGUST
Date: Friday, 1st August
Tutor: Tim Chanter has been a full-time bridge teacher for 10 years, working primarily with Richmond, Wimbledon and Roehampton Bridge Clubs. His teaching has been assessed by the English Bridge Union as outstanding, and he has achieved the rank of Grandmaster in his frequent tournament play. He has been part of the GX Summer School since 2018, and is looking forward to returning in 2025!
Description: The morning and afternoon sessions will cover all aspects of pre-empting including: general principles of pre-emption; factors affecting judgement of whether or not to open with a pre-empt, and if so at what level including vulnerability, seat and suit quality; scoring considerations when pre-empting; responding to your partner's pre-empt with and without a fit; coping after your opponent pre-empts - your options and the factors involved in judging what to do. There will be two 'theory' sessions each followed by play on hands composed to illustrate the lesson material. Written and video commentary on the boards will be sent out after the session.
