CHILTERN KILLS 2025

On Saturday at 11pm we closed the doors on our third year of CHILTERN KILLS in aid of Centrepoint at GXCA.
We are a one day crime/thriller book festival celebrating 60 of the best authors from the UK across two stages from 9am-6pm and all proceeds go to Centrepoint, Prince William’s charity to end youth homelessness. All authors appearing waive their fees, we garner sponsorship, promotion, support from local businesses including the GX Library, the Council as Mayor Prerna Bhardwaj opened the festival, the Chiltern bookshops who manage the book signings and local food trucks who all donate a > of profits to the charity also and we welcome 500 book loving audience members from near and far.
The festival is hailed as one of the best on the circuit and rivals those that have been active for over 10 years plus.

None of this would be possible without the fantastic location of GXCA and the truly outstanding level of professional support, service and commitment to excellence from the one and only Julie Gilmour. If there is a dream Julie can make it happen, if there is a problem Julie can make it disappear and she does it all with an air of elegance and charm and a level of energy and stamina that if it could be bottled would make her a trillionaire. From promoting the event on newsletters and with flyers within the GXCA to making introductions to fellow event planners when meeting in the cafe to talk through outstanding items etc Julie is one of a kind and really an incredible asset.
We also thoroughly appreciated the incredible can-do attitude of Chairwoman Marcia and the seemingly unending and ever present support of Tim and his commitment to getting the job done and done well and to keeping the event clear of rubbish from beginning to end. No job too small for him and always with a smile and good vibe.

This years addition of the GXCA in house cafe and bar was fantastic and their enthusiasm under Lucy’s direction for the event itself and desire to support our audience and authors did not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

There have been internal discussions about possibly moving Chiltern Kills to a different, larger venue - however the charm of GXCA and the brilliance of Julie Gilmour and the way she manages an event on site would be impossible to replicate, hence why we have booked in for our 4th year on Saturday 3rd October 2026 and have already sold 22 tickets!

Thank you especially to Julie for all her patience and guidance along the way.

If there are ways that we could work together to help to promote and engage the local community in this event going forward and to help grow it into an even more successful event we would love to work with you on this.

My son is in the event business, so I have some idea of the massive amount of work that goes into these celebrations. The staff were polite and efficient, so please thank them from me and of course your wonderful chef! The band was also excellent, so all in all, a job very well done.

Our Mehndi family function was an absolute sensational event at Colston Halll , Gerrards Cross . High ceilings, spacious floor , fitted kitchen ,other much needed facility rooms and lovely lawns made this such a spectacular event. With a large number of guests this venue with the ample parking facilities made this an ideal venue.

Highly Recommend Venue

My wife and I chose Colston Hall for our wedding reception. The events manager is an absolute superstar, proving efficient and supportive throughout, and giving us the opportunity to do whatever we wanted with the venue.

Impeccable Burns Night

I just wanted to say how much we enjoyed the Burns Night last Friday.

The event ran very well to time and the service at dinner was impeccable. The waiting staff were very attentive, extremely well managed, and everything worked like clockwork. The food was delicious!

The band, which we have seen previously at the summer BBQ, were excellent as before. We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Fabulous Wedding

Edith and I wanted to write and thank you to the team for hosting a fabulous wedding for us at Colston Hall. From the very first minute when we visited the hall through to collecting our items after the event you have been an absolute star. Edith and I are extremely grateful for the effort that was made in delivering such a beautiful occasion for us. The room was absolutely spectacular and genuinely took our breath away when we first saw it. All of our guests commented on how stunning it looked. We were blessed with great weather which allowed us to use the gardens for some hopefully beautiful photos that will remind us of the lovely day we had.

The quiet and unassuming way that you and your team worked with us on the day was exceptional and mirrored your passion in making it such a great day for us. Everything went smoothly and every single person that joined us had a fantastic time.

We cannot thank you enough and will recommend you to anyone that is looking for a venue.
