CHILTERN WILDLIFE: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE - 1 AUGUST
Date: Friday, 1st August
Tutor: John Tyler B. A. (Oxon) Zoology; M. Sc. (University College London) Conservation. Former Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society. Worked for 25 years in nature conservation, including as Warden of the Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve in Kent. Author of 'The Glow-worm'.
Description: We follow the story of the Chilterns from their birth a hundred million years ago, through ice ages, the growth of forests and the arrival of humans to the present day, along the way exploring the rich diversity of Chiltern habitats and the wildlife that they support.
Then we turn our attention to the future, to some of the threats (and opportunities) that Chiltern wildlife will face during the 21st century, and what we can do to help.
Finally, weather permitting, we will visit the Common to look for some of the species featured in the course.
